Staff Spotlight: Meet Occupational Therapist, Laura Tysoe.
Laura entered the occupational therapy field after graduating from a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy. She has since gained 11 years’ experience in the field, working as an allied health regional manager and senior occupational therapist. With 11 years in occupational therapy, Laura has been able to specialise in a wide range of areas, including aged care in the community and residential aged care, functional assessment and interventions, environmental risk assessment and intervention, minor and major home modifications, complex equipment prescription, complex seating prescription, UL therapy/neurological rehab, dementia care, manual handling risk assessment and education.
Laura’s career in occupational therapy has been filled with memorable achievements. However, one that stands out above the rest is being able to help create and support a disability bike program for aged care clients in community and residential aged care while working in Canada. Her passion for occupational therapy began a young age when her best friend was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. When she saw the impact that the occupational therapist had on her best friend by providing a better quality of life and his passion for educating others and reducing stigma, she knew this was the career for her. When Laura isn’t working in the community, she loves to spend time in the outdoors with her family and their dog, making the most of each day.
